Daily Devotional

Daily Light for July 5

Morning

We have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us.

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”—He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?—The LORD is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made.

We love because he first loved us.

“Blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.”

Evening

Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly.

My brothers, show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory. . . . Has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him?

Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor.—But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.

But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.

O LORD, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high.

Rom. 12:16; Jas. 2:1, 5; 1 Cor. 10:24; 1 Tim. 6:8, 9; 1 Cor. 1:27-29; Ps. 131:1 (Read full verses...)
